Climate change, without the guilt or the fear.

Norm Leo is a climate scientist who has given more than 700 talks on four continents. Audiences come in anxious. They leave with a plan, and usually after a few laughs.

Each stripe is one year of global temperature. The blank ones at the end are the years nobody has written yet, and those are what Norm talks about. (Illustrative, after Ed Hawkins’ warming stripes.)

One book, two covers. Read the problem, then turn it over and read the solutions.

The book

Look at it this way

Climate change solutions will benefit your health and wealth

This is a true flip book. Start from one cover and you read how climate change impacts will harm your health, your wealth, your food, your water and your home. Turn it over and the same five areas show how climate solutions will benefit them, right now.

FAQ
Questions people ask Norm

How do you communicate climate change effectively?

Start with what people already care about (health, money, family, home) and show how solutions improve those things. Facts matter, but hope is what makes people act.

What climate messaging works for awareness campaigns?

Lead with concrete benefits and simple next steps. Fear grabs attention for a moment. Clear payoffs keep people engaged.

How can I talk about climate change without causing anxiety?

Pair every problem with something people can do about it. Norm has spent more than 20 years refining an approach without guilt or fear.

How can we be hopeful about climate change?

Many solutions are already cheaper, healthier and more comfortable than what they replace. That’s a solid reason for hope.

Is it too late to stop climate change? Are we doomed?

No. Climate Action Tracker estimates current policies point to about 2.6 °C of warming. That’s serious, but every tenth of a degree we avoid matters, and the future isn’t fixed.

How can I reduce my carbon footprint without sacrificing comfort?

Many swaps actually make life more comfortable and save money. Norm’s free guide, Save the Climate, Save Green, lists several of them.
